George Durán, age 91, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on March 13, 2017.
George is survived by the mother of his children, Connie M. Sánchez, his daughters, Sylvia A. M. Tapia, Gloria J. Morris (David) and Victoria Elisa Durán (Mark R. Crockett), his grandchildren, Paul Tapia (Stephanie), Robert Tapia, Joe Romero, Annette M. Romero, Michael Durán (Sabrina), Shelley Hansen (Zach) and Lisa M. Lucero, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, his brother, Mike Durán (Carmen), his sister-in-law, Isabel Durán and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Durán Sr. and Josephina Durán, his son-in-law, Henry Tapia Sr. and his grandson, Henry G. Tapia Jr, his brothers, Phillip Durán, Joe Durán and Albert Durán and his sister, Pauline Ruiz.
George proudly served in the United States Navy and fought 65 battles at sea during World War II, mainly in the Pacific Ocean aboard the USS Santa Fé CL-60. George also served 21 years in the Merchant Marines.
A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Road NW in Albuquerque, NM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The Celebrant will be Rev. Joe Vigil. Interment will follow at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM at 1:30 p.m.
The family would like to thank Hospice of New Mexico and their caretakers for all their love and support. The family would also like to thank Guadalupe Aragón for her care and love for our father.
