A memorial service was held at the Yesterday's Calf-A in Dell Saturday, May 28, for Ken A. BERTHELSON. Birth name was Arnold Marion (He changed it prior to his marriage). Mr. Berthelson died Wednesday, May 25, 1994, at his home in Dell. He was born in Penrose, Wyoming, on September 20, 1910, the son of Danish immigrants, James C. and Botilda Gylling BERTHELSON. In the early 1930's he moved to Montana and worked in the Big Hole Valley. In August 1938 he married Ruth Marie KUCHLER in Dillon. They settled in Lima in 1948, where he served as mayor in the 1970's. The family moved to Dell when he bought the old Dell schoolhouse bell and found out the schoolhouse went with the bell. He and his wife Ruth achieved national fame by turning the old schoolhouse into Yesterdays Calf-A and Museum. He was an outdoorsman and sportsman who enjoyed hunting and just going out and walking in the mountains. In his later years he enjoyed sitting in Yesterday's Calf-A spinning yarns with the tourists and his friends who enjoyed his humor. He is preceded in death by his parents, five half-brothers and sisters, nine sisters, one brother and one daughter Joan. Survivors include his wife Ruth of Dell; one brother, Si Berthelson of Meeker, Colo., and one sister and brother-in-law Dixie and Jack McClure of Dillon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Zane and Jan of Dell, George and Sarah of Memphis, Tenn.; two adopted children, Crystal and Kenneth Berthelson; four granddaughters, Vila and Mike Martin of Lima; Wanda Jensen of Lima, Angel and Dennis Garcia of Santa Fe, N. Mex., Kelly and Lee White and three grandsons, Shay Berthelson of Tennessee; Chad Berthelson of Florida; and Zane A. Berthelson of New Mexico, and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Public Lands Access Association, P.O. Box 3902, Bozeman, MT 59772, or the the charity of the donors choice.
