Concerning the death of the late Green Abbott, which was briefly mentioned in the Journal last week, the Melcher Union says:
"Green Abbott was born in the state of Kentucky, June 4, 1833, and in early childhood came with his parents to Warren county, Illinois, where he grew to early manhood, after which he moved to Mercer county, Illinois.
He was united in marriage to Emily A. Foster. January 2. 1853. To this union were born eight children, two dying in infancy and one in early womanhood. The living children area: S. J. Abbott, of Colfax, Wash.; J. R. Abbott of Dallas; F. C. Abbott of Belinda; Mrs. Effie Strahan of Dallas, and Mrs. Emily Wilson, of Melcher, Iowa.
He was made a Mason about 1865 at Oxford, Ill. Father and Mother Abbott took their stand for Christ and the Church in their useful days and kept to the faith to the end of Life's journey.
He departed this life January 24, 1917, being 83 years, 5 months and 20 days old, his dear wife preceding him to the spirit world, October 13, 1916.
The funeral services were held in the Tabernacle at Melcher last Thursday and the room was filled to its capacity. Reverend Bennett preached a touching sermon, after which the Masonic order too charge of the services at the grave and all that was mortal of Father Abbott was laid to rest in the cemetery west of Dallas to await the final day"
