Newton Reece Barrett, a former resident of this city died at Highland Hospital, Oakland, California Monday night following an operation for gallstones.
The body was cremated and funeral arrangements are to be made later in the month.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, William of Columbus and Richard of Detroit and one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Haber of Ames, Iowa.
Mr. Barrett was well known in this community where he operated Barrett's livery barn on the site of the present Hillsboro Auto Co. garage for a number of years.
He left this city approximately 20 years ago.
