Melvin G Bading | 1924 - 2017 | Obituary
March 10, 1924 - March 17, 2017

Melvin Bading of the Geronimo Community passed to his eternal life on March 17, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born to Edwin and Edith (Braunholz) Bading on March 10, 1924 in Seguin. He grew up and lived his entire life on the family farm near Geronimo. He attended and graduated from Navarro Schools. On September 8, 1945, he married Virginia Ludwig of the Freiheit Community. The couple made their home on the Bading Farm where they lived their entire lives together and raised their family. Melvin was a lifelong farmer and rancher raising corn, grain sorghum, cotton, wheat, cattle, hogs and chickens. He had many talents as a handyman and repairman handling all the repair and construction work around home and farm. A quiet and simple man, he took pleasure in his work on the land and in his family, especially his children and grandchildren, instilling in them his appreciation and love of the land, life on the farm and a strong work ethic. He was a faithful, lifelong member of Friedens Church in Geronimo where he served on the church council and numerous boards and committees. He served as superintendent of the Friedens Church Sunday School for many years. He was a member of Lone Oak Cemetery Association where he served on the board of directors and sexton for many years. He was a member of the Clear Springs Frohsinn German singing club where he and Virginia enjoyed the weekly Monday night singing practices and the semi-annual regional Saengerfests. He served many years on the Guadalupe County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Board. He was 4-H leader and supporter of Navarro Schools. He enjoyed the occasional outings with the “picnic group”. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years Virginia, brother Edwin H. Bading, sisters and brothers-in-laws Cecle and Arlind Blome and Vernell and Nelson Ludwig. He is survived by his sons Roger Bading and wife Marlu, Russell and wife Charla; four grandchildren Ryan Bading and wife Sara, Kyle Bading and wife Megan, Michaella Meredith and husband J.R. and Justin Bading and wife Renee and seven great grandchildren Kylie, Kyle, Reese, Brynn, Lucy, Nora and Joplin. He is also survived by sister-in-law Carolyn Bading, brother-in-law Howard Ludwig and wife Delrose along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin. A service in celebration of Melvin's life will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday March 22, 2017 at Friedens Church with Pastors Sonja and Dave Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Friedens Church Building and Maintenance Fund, 2555 Friedens Church Rd, Seguin, TX 78153 or Lone Oak Cemetery Association, 736 Stremple, Seguin, Texas, 78155.
