Doris E Farmer, 80, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 13, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born in Enterprise, Mississippi to Ruby (Pulley) Smith and Parmer Smith.

She loved to cook for family and friends where no one was a stranger in her kitchen. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was a caregiving, helpful, happy-go-lucky person. She loved life and her family very much. She loved to can veggies and fruit that was grown in the family garden.

She worked for GTE (Verizon) for many years and was a beauty shop owner in Highlands for several years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years James Farmer Sr.; son, Mark Farmer; grandson, Paul Farmer; parents, Parmer and Ruby Smith; special pet companion of 22 years, Traveler.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Matocha (Frank), James Farmer (MaryAnn), Kenny Farmer (Jackie), David Farmer (Linda), Joe Farmer (Brenda), Tammy Bennet (David); her 101 year old sister, Louanne Smith of Long Beach, Mississippi; brother, Evans Smith; 33 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sterling White Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Highlands. Interment will follow at Sterling White Cemetery.
