Catherine Broadstreet Ingold, age 89, of Asheboro passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

Catherine was born on May 28, 1927 and was raised by her father, Oscar Broadstreet.

She attended school in Troy and after graduation, she went to work with the telephone company, Gilead Manufacturing, and retired from Sox, Inc. after 35 years of service. She served as Chief Judge for many years with the Montgomery County and Randolph County Election Board. She received her Substitute Certificate and substituted in the Montgomery County and Randolph County Schools, grades K-12. She was known as "Granny" by all students and staff. She loved helping and encouraging children and young adults.

Catherine was a member and Past President of KMR Civic Club in Mt. Gilead, a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, where she served many different roles as well as Grand Representative for OES Randolph and #210. She served as the Past American Red Cross Treasurer in Montgomery County. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for over 60 years at First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead and First Baptist Church in Asheboro. She also served as WMU President and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Asheboro.

She used to like to tell the story of when she and daddy met-at that time, she was working for the phone company. One afternoon, daddy went in to pay his bill and mom just happened to be the one to take his money. When he left, she said, "Come back to see us". Well, that night, he showed up at her door.

Mom was our biggest cheerleader. She wanted and demanded us to be involved in church, school, and community. She pushed for us to always do our best and if you start something, you finish it! She had a very strong work ethic that has continued over into our lives. She was quick to remind us often that she didn't have a mother who could encourage her and be present for her. She made up for it in everything she did for us.

Catherine had a very special relationship with God. She knew who He was and spoke to Him daily. She believed in the power of prayer and shared frequently with others about what all God done in her life.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence E. Ingold, Jr. (Ann); daughter, Donna Ingold Owen (Steve); granddaughters, Laura Ingold, Angie Ingold Cox (Mark), Megan Ingold Brown; and great granddaughter, Sarah Ashley Cox.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street in Asheboro and at other times at the home of Larry and Ann Ingold, 205 Springs Gap Run, New London, NC. Funeral services will follow on Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will be held at Melton's Grove United Methodist Church, 4467 NC Highway 109 South, Mt. Gilead.
