In 1945, Ernie moved to Baytown, and was hired by the General Tire Company, which later became United Carbon, and eventually Ashland Chemicals. His original plan was to make some money and return home to start his own ranch. However, he soon met the love of his life, and married Alpha Sims in 1946; a marriage that would last 53 years.
Ernie and Alpha shared the love of cooking, and after his retirement, they often cooked for numerous benefits around Baytown. This fun loving couple enjoyed the outdoors, and took a special pride in maintaining a beautiful yard, and visiting their friends and family.
Ernie was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, and in 2000, he was honored for being a member for 50 years.
Ernie loved to talk and tell tales of his days as a cowboy. He and his wife were members of Second Baptist Church, and later Wooster Baptist Church.
Ernie is survived by three children, Tim Robbins of Baytown, Kevin Robbins of Baytown, and Renee Stephen of Pantego, TX. He also has four grandsons, Eric Robbins, Dennis Robbins, Clay Robbins, and Trinity Stephen, as well as two great grandchildren, Nathan Robbins and Eva Marley Robbins. Ernie also has one sister, Vivian Ellis of Luling, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
