Derrick Dion Hunter, 23, of the 3900 block of Marina Lake Drive, a student and chief cook, died Friday, July 1, 1994, in a Petersburg hospital.

Mr. Hunter was born in Waukegan, Ill. He was employed with Spinnaker's Restaurant, Petersburg, and was entering his second year at Virginia State University, Petersburg.

Survivors include his mother, Ruby T. Hunter of Virginia Beach; his father, Clarence Hunter of Jacksonville, N.C.; one brother, Brandon M. Hunter of the home; maternal grandmother, Ruby Turner of Virginia Beach; paternal grandmother, Cleazarticies Hunter; and several uncles and aunts, among them Diane Penix of Virginia Beach.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at Riddick Funeral Service from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral will assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
