Born June 9, 1950, in Dallas, N.C., Don was a son of the late Charles Clinton Norwood and Annie Deese Norwood. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retired from Firestone and an employee of the U.S. Postal Service.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Saylor Norwood of York; daughter, Amber Leighann Norwood of Dallas; son, Donald Clinton Norwood and wife Amanda of Charlotte; and brothers, Charles Miller and wife Yesmin of Homestead, Fla., Royal Norwood and wife Robin of Cherryville, N.C. and Major Norwood and wife Kim of Dallas, N.C. The families are all very close. He has many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Don was a popular student and a 1968 graduate of Dallas High School. He was a class superlative and an excellent athlete. After graduation, he played semi-pro football on a team from Gastonia, The Gaston Patriots. Don enjoyed the outdoors – an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved using his outdoor grilling talents to feed family, friends and neighbors. At one time, he owned his own BBQ restaurant in Chester. Don was Don until the end. His smile was contagious, and his faith in God remained steadfast.
