A memorial service for Michael Douglas Hartman of Southeast Portland, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel. Private interment will be in the Comstock Cemetery near Curtain.

Mr. Hartman died of liver cancer Wednesday in a Portland hospital. He was 42.

Born Sept. 3, 1950, in Drain, Mr. Hartman graduated from Thurston High School near Springfield. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hartman earned an associate's degree in blueprint welding from Lane Community College and graduated with a certificate in automated drafting technology from the Oregon Polytechnic Institute.

Mr. Hartman had lived in the Portland area for the past 18 years. He had worked as a steel fabricator for Bingham Willamette, now called Sulzer Bingham Pumps Inc., for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife, Shannon; daughter, Brandy of Springfield; stepdaughter, Shawna Stroup of Portland; mother, Ruth Hartman of San Jose, Calif.; sisters, Beverly J. Brewster of San Jose, Sandra L. of Boise and Janice Bishop of Bend; and two grandchildren.
