Johnnie B. Mitchell, 83, of Charleston, formerly of East Chicago, Ind., passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston. She was born January 3, 1933 in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Earlest and Florida Brown. Left to mourn her loss are William Edward Mitchell, her husband of 63 years; two daughters, Ora Denise (David) Scales of Dunbar and Sharon (Greg) Walker of Gary, Ind.; two sons, Arthur (Debra) Brown of Colorado and Virgil (Beverly) Mitchell of Gary, Ind.; spiritual daughters, Dr. Mildred C. Harris of Chicago, Ill., Patricia Dixon of East Chicago, Ind., and Carrie Spears of East Chicago, Ind.; special God daughter, Anita Clark of Charleston; best friend, Mary Morris Leonard of East Chicago, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at First Baptist Church, 432 Shrewsbury St., Charleston, WV 25301. Bishop Bobbie Tunstalle will deliver the eulogy; Pastor Paul A. Dunn will be doing the committal. Interment will at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.Preston Funeral Home, 812 Donnally St., Charleston, WV 25301, is in charge of arrangements.
