Jack Leon Akens, Jr. passed away at Clementine Home Care in Orangevale, CA on March 14, 2017 at the age of 76. He is predeceased by father, Jack L. Akens, Sr. and mother Reva Ethel (Sevedge) Akens. Jack is survived by his sons Jeff Akens, and John Akens and wife Mary, all of Fair Oaks; and his grandchildren Bryce and Erin. He is also survived by his sister Judy (Akens) Pitts, ex-wife, Jean K. Akens, with whom he was married for 35 years, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jack was born in Madera, CA in 1940, and raised in Chowchilla, CA. He graduated from Chowchilla High School in 1958 where he was a running back (#24) on the football team. He moved to Sacramento area in 1968 where he lived the rest of his life. Jack established, owned, and operated Safeguard Pest Control for 20 years and Jack Akens Contracting for 15 years. He served on the boards of directors of the Pest Control Operators of California, Northridge Little League, and Red Rock 4-Wheelers. He was also a leader in Cub and Boy Scouts.
Jack enjoyed camping, 4-wheeling, country music, western movies and novels, photography, coin collecting, metal detecting, gold panning, baseball, and other sports. Mostly, he enjoyed time with family, being very active in his sons' activities and in those of his grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017, 10:00am at East Lawn, 5757 Greenback Ln, Sacramento, CA with Pastor Cliff Graves officiating.
