Archie Lohman was the son of Herman Henry Lohman and Wilhelmine Thiede Lohman. On 18 July 1912 he married Emma Weuckner. As a child he was hit in the eye by a baseball while attending a minor league baseball game. As a result he had an artificial right eye for the remainder of his life. As a teenager and young man Archie worked for his father and uncle in their livery business. In 1917 Archie and his father converted the Lohman Bros. Livery Service into Lohman and Son Funeral Service (later Lohman Funeral Service). Archie built the new funeral home into a thriving business. Archie was known for wearing a newly purchased silk tie for every funeral he arranged. He owned and operated Lohman Funeral Service for forty-two years. During his last illness Archie was cared for by his good friend, and fellow funeral director, Eleanor 'Tuts' Bielefeld.
From a 1956 Milwaukee newspaper obituary:

He (Archie) was a member of the local, state and national funeral director associations, the South Side Old Settlers Club, South Side Civic Association, South Side Lions Club, the Greenfield Avenue and Mitchell Street Advancement Associations and St. Martini Evangelical Lutheran Church. His only immediate survivor, is a sister, Mrs. Etta Carroll, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Funeral services will be at 1:30p.m. Monday at his funeral home with burial in Good Hope Cemetery. The body will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday."
