Mrs. John R. Adams, 87, of 605 Lakeshore, a resident of Port Arthur since 1902, died at 1 p.m. Thursday at her home after a long illness. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Methodist Temple. The Rev. Chester Steele, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont under direction of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Mrs. Adams was a native of Jasper. She was a member of the Methodist Temple. During her earlier years she was active in Port Arthur civic life. She was a charter member of the Department Club and served as its president several times. She was chosen as "Woman of the Year" in 1960 by the Port Arthur Kiwanis Club. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. George C. O'Brien of Beaumont and a brother, Julius Henderson of Port Arthur.
