Mary A. Cathey
August 15, 1922 - April 17 2014

Mary A. Cathey, a long-time resident of Grand Junction, Colorado, went to her eternal home on April 17, 2014.

She was born Maria Asunta Mangiameli in Chicago, Illinois, August 15, 1922, to Giovanni and Maria Concetta (DiGilia) Mangiameli. She married Harmon Wyatt Cathey on May 25, 1944.
They were married 48 years before Harmon preceded her in death, June 18, 1992.

She is survived by brothers, Anthony Mangiameli of California; Vincent Mangiameli of Illinois; her five children, Lenora (Andrew) Bristol of Las Cruces, NM; Paul Cathey of Grand Junction; Alice DeNovo (Charles) Bickelman of Jefferson, Georgia; Felice (Russell) Dudrey of Hastings, NE, and Anna Maria (Robert) Fuoco of Grand Junction. She left 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Mary is also preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, and one grandson, David Bristol.

Mary loved animals and babies, and she instilled in her children that same love. She had a special language she used when talking to babies and puppies, and she was uninhibited when using it, even with total strangers. Mary had a gift for connecting with people, and those who knew her had no doubt that she cared about them, and they accepted her often unsolicited advice with love and good humor. She filled a unique place in this world and will be greatly missed.

The memorial service will be held at the church of Christ, 2893 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, at 11:00 a.m. on May 6, 2014.
