Thomas B. Benjamin of the town of Madge, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, as the result of a traffic accident.

He was born on March 23, 1934, in Tomah to Winton and Freida (Rudoll) Benjamin. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1952, and then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War.

He married Agnes Uischner on Aug. 27, 1955, in Warrens. Following their marriage, he attended barber school in Milwaukee and attained his Master Barber’s license. Tom was employed in Tomah and then owned his own shop in Wilton from 1960 to 1970. In 1970 he opened a barber shop in Spooner, which he ran until 1983. He then drove truck for a fruit company out of Rice Lake.

Tom had been employed by Butternut Golf Course as a grounds keeper and also worked at the Lapacinski Potato Farm.

Tom and Agnes had lived in Spooner, Sarona, and the Long Lake area since 1970.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mark (Debra) and Thomas (Barbara), both of Spooner, and Timothy (Karla) of Elk Mound; one daughter, Sandra (Bob) Schenck of Janesville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Donald of Minocqua and Gary of Warrens; and three sisters, Shirley Ellsworth of Mankato, Minn., Carol Martin of Janesville, and Marlene Sebranek of Delavan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner. Rev. Carolyn Mowchan officiated.

Pockat Funeral Home of Shell Lake was in charge of arrangements.
