Services to celebrate the life of Jennie Vera Pickens, age 89, are 1 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at her home church, Corinth Baptist in Ardmore, with the Pastor, the Rev. Abraham Walton, officiating. Interment will follow in Hickory Cemetery, Woodford.
Jennie V. was born to J.T. and Mandy Roberts on Feb. 14, 1928, in the Gene Autry community. She died in her home in Ardmore, Wednesday, March 8, 2017. She married S.T. Pickens in Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2005. Growing up in the Milo Community, Mrs. Pickens was employed at Mercy Hospital, the Adult Day Care Center and Ardmore's Blood Bank.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Major Grant; a daughter, Janet Pickens; a granddaughter, Ebony Wright; a grandson, Mark Grant; a great-granddaughter, Cellis Grant; and five brothers and sisters, Norene Grant, Milladean Williamson, W.G. Roberts, Nathan Roberts and Earline Roberts-Pickens.
She is survived by her children, Jimmy Ray Brown, Linda Pickens-Petties, and Janet Leigh Pickens; six siblings: Kathy Brown, Janie Allen, Shirley Pickens, Eugene Roberts, Harvey Lee Roberts and John T. Roberts; nine grandchildren, Zaundra Grant, Jonna Grant, Lamorn Grant, Tara Johnson, Chris Pickens, Judy Clark, Merle Petties, Kenyetta Cohee and Shantell Roberson; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; plus a host of other loved ones.
The public viewal will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday in the Funeral Home Chapel. Services are entrusted to the care of Kirk Funeral Home.
