On Nov. 17, 1956, Pat married George B. “Barney” McRae who survives. Also surviving are her daughters, Kelly Platt (Michael) of Zionsville, Ind. and Leslie Whitney (Steve) of Granger, Ind.; grandchildren, Adam Coquillard (Ahmanda), Derek Coquillard (Elizabeth), Corbin and Aidan Whitney; and great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Harper, Avery and Cora and her loving friend, Margaret Matzinger, also of South Bend.
A friend to all animals, she was an advocate for large and small alike. A vibrant and joyful soul, she always had a joke to share with friends and strangers alike. A homemaker in the early 1970's, Pat was involved with the local South Bend Volunteer Fire Department where her husband was a volunteer fireman. Pat was front and center with weekly fish fry's and fund raising events. She drove school buses for South Bend Community Schools for more than 10 years and volunteered at Ronald McDonald House later in her life. In the early 1990's she found her happy place, as the coordinator for health and feeding of more than 15 horses, owned and loved by Reins of Life Therapeutic Horseback Riding of Michiana. Along with her husband, she led a team of volunteers to keep the life blood of Reins of Life, the horses, healthy and happy.
Just as in her life, the Rainbow Bridge now has an official Snow White, greeting all beloved pets and grand-pets. Animals never had a better friend. There will be no services. Memorial contributions in Pat's name may be made to Reins of Life Therapeutic Horseback Riding of Michiana or Pet Refuge of South Bend. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North is assisting the family with arrangements.
