Richard Cleon Oglesby, 87, of Springfield, died at 9:41 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Oglesby was born January 31, 1930 in Villa Park, IL, the son of Howard C. and Mae Evans Oglesby. He married Esther Susanne Prince on June 9, 1950; she preceded him in death in October 2008. He married Judith A. Freitag in December 2011.
Mr. Oglesby graduated from Decatur High School in 1948. He attended James Millikin University and Brown's Business College. He earned an associate's degree in Risk Management and Insurance from the Insurance Institute of America.
Mr. Oglesby served approximately four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War Conflict. His military service was in Fleet Communications with the Amphibious Forces aboard the Sixth Fleet Flagship, the USS Mount Olympus. Prior to the Korean War, he served as a Radioman 3rd Class aboard the USS Okanagon APA220.
Mr. Oglesby was honored for his 25 years of service and leadership on the Edison Electric Institute Risk Management and Insurance Committee. He retired as Risk Management Supervisor from the Central Illinois Public Service Company after 35 years in 1990. He served as a member and Chairman of the Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission.
Mr. Oglesby was also a member of the Board of Directors for PONY Baseball, Inc. in Washington, PA and served as their North Regional Director for fifteen Midwestern states. He was the founding member and President of Springfield Pony League, Inc., the all-volunteer organization which purchased and developed, over a seven-year period, the Old Springfield Boiler Works plant and property located on East Capitol Street, subsequently named, "The Bill Chamberlain Park."
Mr. Oglesby was a member of Central Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Oglesby participated as missionary representatives of the American Baptist Churches Great Rivers Region Missions Encounter tour of Burma and Thailand in 1985.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; three sons: Peter , James and Matthew ; one daughter: Margaret; step-son, Steven Freitag ; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister: Gwendolyn M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society prior to ceremonies.

Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
