Salem - Alice M. Nielsen, 88, of Salem, passed away Saturday.
She was born in McMinnville, OR, and raised on a dairy farm near Rickreall. Alice graduated from Dallas High School in 1946. Following graduation from the University of Oregon in 1951, she moved to Salem where she worked for the State of Oregon until her retirement in 1993. She was a State Library Administrative Assistant and Technician for 27 years and was a member of the Chemeketan Outdoor Club (since 1955), for 61 years. She enjoyed hiking, backpacking, and reading.
Survivors include her brother: Christian F. (Betsy) Nielsen, Eugene; nieces, Karen (Rich) Watte and daughters Bridget, Renee', and Amanda of Abany; Anita (Chad) Stryker and sons, Phillip and John and daughter Katherine of Ridgefield, WA; nephew, Peter D. Nielsen (Michi), of Iowa City, IA.She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Soren D. Nielsen.
Memorial Contributions may be made to The Chemeketans, P.O. Box 864, Salem, OR 97308, or a charity of choice . Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 10, 2016 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Services. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Polk County.
