Carolyn Hayden was born in Illinois, a daughter of Charles Joseph Adams 1851–1940 and Rose McCaffery 1870–1938. She had a sister Florence 1895–1942.

Her family lived in Chicago where her father was a decorator in 1900. By 1910 her mother had married Charles W, Selby and Carolyn was working as a secretary at a department store. Carolyn was a stage entertainer in Chicago for 40 years.

Carolyn married George Benjamin Cady 1890–1955 in 1911 in Chicago. They had a son George B. Cady 1912–1966.

The family lived in Chicago where Benjamin was a brokerage clerk in 1930. By 1940 he was a grain operator.

Carolyn had a second marriage before 1950 to Sylvester Leander Hayden 1891-1973. They did not have children.

Survivors include five grandchildren..
