Paul reportedly had an outgoing personality and was inducted in the Army 2 June 1944, and discharged 8 February 1946 as a PFC Infantryman. He served in the Hqs 411th Infantry at the Rineland Central Europe. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Two Bronze Service Stars and WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign. He later served in the Korean Conflict and survived The Frozen Chosen Trap. He was discharged just prior to his Father's funeral and it was reported that he would run and hide under a bed at the awareness of an unexpected noise.
Paul disappeared 3 September 1952 when he left home with a friend, and was never again seen by his family.
He was legally declared dead 28 June, 1966 by the Chancery Court in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
