OBITUARIES
ALFRED HARTSOCH
Funeral services for Alfred Hartsoch, 69, were Saturday at Waggener & Campbell Chapel, with the Rev. F. A. Johnson, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial was in Conrad Memorial Cemetery, with Homer Berner, Clifford Dern, Glen Dern, Ray Otten, Pat Malone, and Herb Malone as pallbearers.
Alfred Hartsoch was born March 7, 1887, a son of the Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Hartsoch in the state of Kansas. He moved with his family to Indiana and later to Rolette, N.D., where he grew to manhood, and homesteaded near Ray, N.D.
He married Charlotte Smith, and they were parents of 11 children of whom two sons, John and Marion, and one daughter, Mary LaBere, preceded their father in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, in 1922.
In 1928 he married Alice Smalley of Carinth, N.D. They were the parents of six children. One son, Walter, preceded him in death.
Mr. Hartsoch came to the Flathead in June of 1936 and made his home northwest of Kalispell where he engaged in farming until moving to Kalispell in 1951.
He died in a local hospital in Kalispell, Jan. 2.
Mr. Hartsoch was ordained into the ministry in 1926, and was a member of the Brethren Church.
He is survived by his widow, Alice E., at the family home at 423 Sixth Ave. West, Kalispell; eight daughters, and five sons, Rachel, Kota, Darlene, and Blanche, all of Kalispell; Sylvia LaBere and Grace Kerbaugh, both of Ray, N.D.; Irene Olson of Baker, Senie Hickel of Prescott, Ore., Earney of Kalispell, Isaac of Kelso, Wash., Alfred of Eugene, Ore., Ray of Polson; 43 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Ann of Grenora, N.D., and Mary Gordon of Walkerton, Ind.; three brothers, Charley of Temple, N.D., Lloyd of White Earth, N.D. and Theodore of Longview, Wash., and a number of other relatives.
Mr. Hartsoch was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Alfred was one of ten children of John W. Hartsoch and Safrona Alice Dawson (listed as "Dawson" on the census records). Alfred married Charlotte Isabelle Smith July 10, 1905.
