Published in The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Wednesday, March 15, 2017, Page 8A.

Karen Lawson, age 55, passed away at her home in Bethany, Oklahoma, Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was born in Denver, Colorado on August 22, 1961 to Don and Marilyn Perry. She moved to Oklahoma City when she was 9 years old and graduated from Putnam City High School in 1979. Immediately after high school, she began her Insurance career with Mid-Continent Life in Oklahoma City. She completed her 25 year career with American Fidelity Assurance who had acquired Mid-Continent Life. During her career she attained several industry certifications and the title of Second Vice President.

Karen was a devoted wife, loving daughter, sister and aunt. She and her husband, Jim Wheeler, were married 25 years. They enjoyed many activities including APA Pool League, where she and Jim qualified several times for Las Vegas nationals, OU Sports, Thunder Basketball, and whatever the latest athletic or artistic whims were for her nieces and nephews. Karen enthusiastically sat through many gymnastics meets, piano recitals and ballet recitals. She enjoyed cooking and horticulture. Her lasagna and deviled eggs were family favorites, and at times her living room resembled the Amazon Forrest. Sadly, her career and life were cut short as rheumatic arthritis took its toll on her health, but through it all Karen never complained and kept a positive attitude toward life.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Don Perry. She is survived by her husband, Jim Wheeler, Bethany, Oklahoma; mother, Marilyn Whitlock, Yukon, Oklahoma; sister, Cindy Miller and her husband Dave, Montana; sister, Tammy Deaton and her husband Mark, Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Robert Wheeler and his wife Vicky, Valley Brook, Oklahoma; 4 nieces and 3 nephews.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 16th at 2 p.m. at Mercer Adams Funeral Home, Bethany Oklahoma, with interment in the Bethany Cemetery.
