SP4 James Junius Ruffin, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Wilson, North Carolina.

Specialist Four James Junius Ruffin was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Ruffin served our country until March 19th, 1967 in South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. It was reported that James died when a pistol accidentally discharged as he was riding in a vehicle. His body was recovered. James was born on October 25th, 1945 in Wilson, North Carolina. SP4 Ruffin is on panel 16E, line 114 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

Sp4 James Junior Ruffin, 116 North Pender Street, died March 19 in Vietnam. Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Denese Kirk of Wilson; his parents, Mr and Mrs John H Ruffin of Wilson; one sister, Mrs Mamie Lee Hall, Wilson; and one brother, Lance Cpl Charles E Ruffin, Camp LeJeune, NC; paternal grandmother, Mrs Annie Barnes, Wilson; one niece; one nephew; three aunts, four uncles. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2pm, Monday in Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church on Barnes Street by the Reverend C.C. Thomas. Burial with Military Rites will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The body is at Hamilton Funeral Home in Wilson where it will remain until taken to the church at 12 noon Friday.

He was the son of Mr John Henry Ruffin and Mrs Aretha Braswell, 116 Pender Street, Wilson, NC.

He served with India Troop, 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, "Blackhorse", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
