US Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1835, studied law, and became an attorney in Monroe, Michigan. In 1839 he settled in Ovid, New York, where he continued to practice law. He was elected Ovid Town Supervisor in 1839. From 1851 to 1855 he was simultaneously Seneca County's Surrogate Judge and County Court Judge. In 1856 he was a Delegate to the first Republican National Convention. In 1870 Seeley was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Republican and served one term, 1871 to 1873. He did not run for reelection and resumed practicing law in Ovid. Seeley was a long time member of the Ovid Academy Board of Trustees, and was active in various civic organizations.
