Well Known Ord Man Dies At Age of 77; Funeral is Held Saturday

After an illness of several months, Israel Packer, well known Ord resident, passed away last Thursday morning at his home here. He was 77 years old and had lived in Garfield and Valley counties since 1911.
Mr. Packer was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, on august 28, 1850. There he grew to manhood on his father's farm and attended college in New Athens and later in Springboro. For a year or two he worked with his father in the stock business.
On August 4, 1875, he was married to Abi S. Thompson. Until 1882 they made their home in Ohio, moving from there to Marshall county Iowa where they lived until 1886. From there they moved to Kansas, staying there one year before returning to Marshall county.
In the spring of 1893 Mr. and Mrs. Packer moved to Calhoun county, Iowa, and remained there until 1911 when they came to Garfield county, Nebraska, to operate a stock ranch. In the spring of 1918 they moved to Ord and this place was Mr. Packer's home until his death. From time to time the Packers spent a few months in California but retained their home here and when Mr. Packer became ill he moved back to Ord and passed away here.
From boyhood Mr. Packer was raised a member of the Hicksite Friends and until his death remained a faithful member of the order. To him and his wife, who survives, came nine children. They are: Walter, of Clinton, O.; Mrs. Jens Olkjer, Elbert, Colo.; Marion, Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Charles, Franklin, Nebr.; Kersey, New Plymouth, Ia.; Mrs. J. S. Harris, Long Beach, Calif.; Henry, Lake City, Ia.; Hiram, Ord, and Ira, Clarks, Nebr. All survive their father.
Other relatives include twenty-four grandchildren, a sister, five brothers, many more distant relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the home Saturday morning with six sons acting as pallbearers. Interment was in Ord Cemetery.
