US Congressman. As a farmer, he was associated with the Production Marketing Administration in Kittson County Minnesota, from 1935 to 1950. He was a member of Kennedy School Board, serving as president, 1948 to 1950, the South Red River Town Board, 1947 to 1950 and the State house of representatives, 1950 to 1958. He served as Republican leader in 1957 and 1958. In 1959, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-sixth and to the five succeeding Congresses serving until 1971. After his defeat by Robert Bergland in the general election of 1970, he became Administrator of the Packers and Stockyards Administration of the United States Department of Agriculture. When he resigned, he resumed farming pursuits until his death.
