John A. Baker, a well known and respected resident of this city, died last evening at 6.10 o'clock at his home, 327 Lexington avenue, of apoplexy, after an illness of two years and eight months. The deceased was over 71 years of age, having been born in Germany in November 19, 1838. He came to this country when but a small boy, and settled in Gettysburg, and there learned his trade, that of a blacksmith. He came to Altoona in 1871, and was here employed in the Fourth street shops up until the time of his last illness. The deceased was married twice first to Amie Eckonroad, of Gettysburg, who died some years ago. The 1903, he married Margaret Myers in Washington, D. C., who survives him. He is also survived by the following children to his first wife; Jacob, of Pittsburg; Mrs. Anne Zink, of Gettysburg; John, Harry, Charles and Mrs. Julia Herre, all of Altoona. The funeral will take place from St. Mark's Roman Catholic church, at 9 0'clock, on Saturday morning. Interment will be made in St. John's cemetery.
