Roy Haggard, 77 died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital. He had been hospitalized since suffering a heart attack at his home, 2481 Pine St., 10 days ago. Funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kiker-Warren Funeral Home Chapel with Lyle Price, Harlingen Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Haggard was a retired farmer and contractor. He was born in Fannin County on Nov. 3, 1879. On Oct. 6 1901, he was married to Mary Cox of Erath County. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. and Mrs. Haggard moved to Taylor County in 1929, and he farmed near Tuscola until moving to Abilene in 1932 to put their children through Abilene Christian College. Mr. Haggard was a member of the College Church of Christ. Survivors are his wife and five children, Ura Mae Haggard, a teacher in Wichita Falls schools; Jim M. Haggard of Abilene, with the Farmers and Merchants National Bank; Mrs. Ruth LaManna of Hammonton, N.J; Mrs. J. A. Britt, Abilene school teacher; and Air Force Col. Van B. Haggard, stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth; and five brothers, Ernest and Charlie of Durant, Okla., Clay of Arkansas City, Kan., Drew of Bonham, and Paul Haggard of Oklahoma City; and seven grandchildren.
