SIOUX CITY | Lawrence Felten Zoernig of New York City, formerly of Sioux City, died on Feb. 3, 2017, in New York, New York.
All are invited to the memorial concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Christ and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 122 W. 69th St., in New York, N.Y.
Lawrence was born on March 19, 1960, in Sioux City. Lawrence was principal cellist of many orchestras, a much sought after chamber musician, an international concert artist, a successful recording artist, and a gifted teacher and composer. His remarkable musical talents extended well beyond the classical realm. His captivating compositions including Backwoods Blues and Deep Woods Blues for solo cello may be found on YouTube.
Lawrence is survived by his siblings, Emilio Torres and his wife, Adrienne Inglis and their two sons, Walter and Martín Torres, Kevin Zoernig and his children, Jared and Tauby Mintz, and Kevin's wife, Corinna Laszlo Henry and their children, Amelia, Lucinda, and Henry, Jesse Zoernig and her wife, Cecile McKee, Peter Zoernig, Kristin Zoernig, and David Zoernig and his husband, Calvin Hefner; as well as his uncle, Fredric V. Allen; an aunt, Carolyn C. Allen; and many cousins and friends.
