Old Settler Dies In West.

George Grant, eighty-four years old, dies in Oregon last week, came here from Maine about eighty years ago. George Grant, formerly of Plymouth, died in Oakland, Oregon last week. He was almost eighty-four years old. George Grant was born in Prospect, Maine February 7th, 1841. In 1848 he came to this county with his parents, Allen Carter and Charlotte Stinson Grant. His first wife was Miss Mary Steele and his second wife was Josephine Schellinger, both of Plymouth. He was a carpenter by trade but spent most of his life on a farm. In 1880 he moved to Butternut, Wisconsin and in 1917 to Portland, Oregon. By his first wife, he had one son John of Portland; and by his second wife three children: Mrs. Margaret MacLean of Colorado, William Grant of Portland and Irene (married) also of Portland. He is a brother of Mrs. B. O. Coon, a brother-in-law of John Schellinger, and an uncle of Mrs. Fred Isserstedt, Mrs. Joel Lee and Mrs. John Mayer, all of Plymouth. The Grant School and Grant Cemetery, east of the city are named for his parents.
