James F. Culver, age 86, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at his home. He was born January 10, 1931 on the Chaplin Farm in Wheatland Township, IL.

Beloved son of the late Jay and Lois (nee Chaplin) Culver, loving brother of Mary Ann (the late Wilbert E.) Mather, dear uncle of Randy S. Mather of Plainfield, IL, Greg B. Mather of Plainfield, IL and Dan T. (Peggy) Mather of Lockport, IL, adored great-uncle of Chad M. (Sarah) Mather of Plainfield, cherished great-great uncle of Xia and Banksy Mather, fond cousin of Eugene (Mary Jane) Carter of Florida and Shirley (the late Wayne) McDermott of Tennessee.

Jim grew up on his family’s one hundred plus year old farm in Wheatland Township, attended Spaulding School and Plainfield High School (Class of 1949). He farmed on the family farm his entire life, growing corn, hay and soybeans. Jim was a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church in Plainfield, Will County Farm Bureau and was a participant in the Wheatland Plowing Matches.

Jim’s passion was his Belgian draft horses which he used for farming, holding demonstrations at Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago and Danada Farms in Wheaton, IL and in area parades.

Visitation Tuesday, March 14, 2017, 3:00-7:30 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Road (Corner of Rts. 30 & 59), Plainfield.

Funeral Services will follow Tuesday, 7:30 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Eun-Hye Choi officiating.

Private Interment: Wheatland Township Cemetery, Naperville.
