Deborah was born in Rock Island, Ill. on August 29, 1950, a daughter of Gabriel Barber III and Lee Qulia (McCoy) Barber. Deborah graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968. She has been a lifelong student having attended many colleges and completed several business, educational and Theological courses.
Deborah married William Harrison on March 29, 2003 at the Temple Baptist Church, Davenport.
She worked 40 years in many capacities for the State of Illinois retiring as a Public Service Administrator where she managed many offices throughout the northwest part of the state. In her earlier years, she spent time in Galesburg as a member and past president of the school board. One of her family's most proudest accomplishments was when she received the ATHENA International Leadership Award in 2005.
Deborah was a member at Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William C. B. Harrison, Rock Island; son, SSG LaRance G. Barber-Holmes, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Treasur and Travis Lewis, East Moline; parents, Pastor Emeritus Gabriel (Lee Qulia) Barber III, Rock Island; siblings, Marsha K. Barber-Jones and Gabriel A. Barber IV, both of Rock Island; extended family members, Louis (Tamra) Holmes Jr., Davenport, Lydia (Thaddeus) White, Fayetteville, Ga., Lowell B. (Laukesha) Holmes, Hampton, Ga., Devin Harrison, Chicago, Vaughn (Latoya) Harrison, Country Club Heights, Ill. and Lincoln E. Holmes, Bloomington, Ill. and TTeirah Moore, Davenport; and of course her dog, Diva Harrison. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis B. Holmes, daughter, Tiffany L. Holmes-Lewis and grandmother, Lillie McCoy.
