Christine Nichols Hale, 97, of Forest, Virginia died Friday, March 10, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late James L. Hale.
She was born June 25, 1919 in Gladys, Virginia, a daughter of the late Giles M. Nichols and Margaret Farmer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Altavista, Virginia. She was a member of the diaconate, first at Kedron Baptist Church in Gladys and later at First Baptist Church in Altavista. She served as a Sunday school teacher for more than fifty years. She was active in school and community affairs, taking a special interest in youth. Christine was employed by the U. S. Government in Roanoke, Virginia during World War II and retired from Central Fidelity Bank (now Wells Fargo) in 1982.
She is survived by one son, Dandridge R. (Danny) Hale of Forest; one grandson, Gideon J. Hale of Appomattox; one granddaughter, Jasmin H. Harris and her husband Bryan of Lynchburg; three great-granddaughters, Ruby Hale, Corrynn and Pailyn Harris; and one great-grandson, G. J. Hale.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Shelton Miles and Rev. Dr. Michael Lee with interment to follow in Kedron Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Sunday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
