She made her first profession of vows on May 31, 1954. Sister taught in various elementary schools in the Allentown Diocese and also in St. John the Baptist School in Ottsville, PA in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Her additional teaching assignments were at Mt. St. Michael High School and Holy Name High School in Reading. For a number of years she was a member of the Formation Team for the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. She also taught Theology at Alvernia College (now University) for five years. In later years she was involved in presenting numerous workshops and programs.
Sister ministered in Adult Religious Education in St. Ann's Parish in Bethlehem, St. Ann's Parish in Naples, FL, St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Mt. Penn, St. Ignatius of Loyola, Sinking Spring, and Sacred Heart Parish in West Reading. For a number of years Sister was engaged in religious journalism and writing. She wrote a weekly column in the Bethlehem Globe and also published a series of books on "What Catholics Should Know¿" for Ligouri Press, "Why Do Catholics¿", and also several series of booklets. In 2008 she retired to Sacred Heart Villa in Reading.
Survivors: Sister Charlene is survived by her Religious Community and a brother, Charles and his family of Easton, PA.
Services: A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 12 in the chapel at Sacred Heart Villa, 51 Seminary Avenue, Reading, PA, beginning at 4PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 7 PM. The viewing will be continued on Monday morning before the Mass of Christian Burial. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, at 11 AM in the chapel of Sacred Heart Villa followed by burial in the convent cemetery. Gallman-Sonoski Funeral Home, Inc., Reading, has charge of arrangements.
