A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Acts II United Methodist Church in Edmond, OK with the Rev. Mark Foster officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Duncan Cemetery, Duncan, OK, next to her husband. Graveside services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.
Jeanne was born July 18, 1923 in Wichita Falls, TX, the third child of Alvah C. and Sarah Ethel Hale Walker. She was married to John Peter Peterson, Jr. on October 19, 1946 at Austin, TX. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1989, after 43 years of marriage.
The Peterson family lived in Duncan for 52 years. Mrs. Peterson owned and operated La Hacienda Gift Shop in Duncan, until her retirement in 1991. She moved to Edmond, OK in 2003. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church, Duncan, and currently a member at Acts II United Methodist Church of Edmond.
Her love for people was shown in her participation in helping others and seeking to bring a smile to the face of those she met. One of the words of advise that she gave to others is "You've got to do the best you can with what you've got." She enjoyed her family and friends, her membership in her churches, missionary work, playing bridge, reading and knitting.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by a son and his wife, Stephen B. and Brenda Peterson of Edmond, and her daughter and son-in-law, Trish and Jerry Cobb of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren: Amy and Lindsay Peterson of Oklahoma City, Lucas and Seth Peterson of Edmond, and Mackenzie Jay Tennery and her husband Ian of Oklahoma City; and her nieces, Jane Hooker and Fay Jean Hooker, both of Albany, TX, Christina Calvert of Johnstown, CO and Mel Peterson of San Marcos, TX and other family members.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alva Ruth Walker Hooker and Betty Ray Walker; and a brother, Ralph Walker.
The family would like to thank Jeanne's "Friends" at Bradford Village in Edmond who lovingly cared for her the last 2 1/2 years.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Acts II United Methodist Church Building Fund; 4848 W. Covell Rd., Edmond, OK 73012 or charity of your choice.
