Lonnie Wright, 77, of Colfax, took his last breath Monday, March 10, 2017, surrounded by family at home in Colfax Iowa after a short illness.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at Warren Powers Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

The second son of Robert and Icyle Wright, Lonnie was born in Des Moines on June 29, 1939. He lived most of his life on the East Side of Des Moines. He married the love of his life, Myrna Wright, on July 27, 1962. Together they lived in Des Moines, Mitchellville, Grimes and Colfax during their married life. Myrna remained his best friend and faithful companion for 49 years, until her death on June 6, 2011.

Lonnie had a passion for life, and his greatest treasure was family. He was very proud of his three children, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A Cubs fan through thick and thin, he was elated to be able to see them win the world series. Lonnie was also an avid bowler. He had three 300 games in his bowling career. He was inducted into the Men's Bowling Hall Of Fame in 2007. Lonnie was a proud employee of the Post Office in Des Moines. He was a loyal employee for almost 40 years until retirement.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Darla (Bill) Fox, Deana (Kevin) Wright and Dori (Andy) Lester; grandchildren, Joe Fox (and companion Denise McCullough), Joshua (Carolina) Fox, Jason Fox, Kyle Sommars (and fiancé Samantha Brear), Chad (Ashley) Sommars, Alexi Wright, Alex Wright (and fiancé Nicole McKinney), Loni (Cody) Leedom, Lucas Weston (and companion Brooke Ekiss) and Linzi Weston (and fiancé Austin VanWyk); great-grandchildren, Yathziry Fox, Makayla Fox, Willow Fox, Emma Jo Leedom, Eva Jo Fox, Ivy Fox, Jade Sommars, Jasper Sommars, Lucy McKinney, EllaRae Wright. Also remembering Lonnie is one brother Doug Wright. Preceding Lonnie in death were his parents, Robert and Icyle Wright, his wife, Myrna, and one brother, Robert Wright.
