Ensign Gerrard Cone was born in 1668 in "Haddam" [now East Haddam] CT, the son of Daniel Cone and Mehitable [Spencer] and a brother of Deacon Daniel Cone who died in June 1725 and was interred in this yard. Gerrard Cone's fieldstone bearing the initials "E G C 1718" is next to that of Daniel Cone's. He was admitted to the East Haddam 1st Church on 24 March 1706; he had a wife named Elizabeth who probably was a Scoville as their first born son was Stephen Cone baptized on 13 June 1697 Middletown 1st Church record. There was a Stephen Scoville at an early date living in Middletown. On 6 January 1718-9 the Hartford Probate Court granted administration rights to son Stephen Cone on 3 June 1718.
