Edith Brenzovich May 6, 2006

Edith Brenzovich, 86, a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, died Saturday in the VNA Hospice at Moses Taylor Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Brenzovich, in 1973.

She was born in Troy, N.H., July 27, 1919, a daughter of the late Emil and Lempi Ranta Tuure. She was a second lieutenant, serving as a registered nurse in the Army during World War II. She was later employed as a registered nurse in Fredericktown. Mrs. Brenzovich was active with all functions and organizations while residing at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, and, on May 4, she received the PEER Award (Pennsylvania's Empowered Expert Residents), which was awarded to her by the Pennsylvania State Ombudsman's Office. She was also a member of the Scarlet Ladies of the Red Hat Society.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Marvil, and husband, Charles. Sharpsburg, Md., a son, George Brenzovich, Texas, a daughter-in-law, Joan Brenzovich, Wilkes-Barre; four grandchildren, Andrea Gallagher, Karen Hannis, George Brenzovich and Seth Marvil; five great-grandchildren, Rayan Jacob Gallagher, Brandon James Hannis, Abigail Brenzovich, Kevin John Hannis and Tyler Brenzovich.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Nat and Gawlas Funeral Hone, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 in St. Nicholas Chuch, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in the Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown.

Friends may call Wednesday, 8 to 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Ave., 18503.
