Julia Elizabeth Duke-Young, age 36, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 6, 2017. She was born in Akron on August 30, 1980 to Philip G. and Kimberly J. (Downs) Duke.

Julia was a kind, giving person who was the first to raise her hand when help was needed in her children’s schools, and our community at large. Her smile and laughter were infectious and will be so hard to live without. The example she set for her children will forever help them to endure this terrible loss. She was devoted to her younger sister Jennifer and would drop everything to help her at any time. Julia was excited and so looking forward to giving birth to her infant daughter, Jocelyn J. Duke, who was to be born on Julia’s father’s birthday on May 17. One life cut short, and one denied the chance to begin. We are positive that Julia is finally holding her baby girl. Unfortunately, we will never know her, but we can always imagine the joy that she would have added to our lives. Julia was a 1998 graduate of Medina High School, where she was a gifted violinist in the orchestra, Captain of the Color Guard in the Marching Band, and a member of many vocal school groups. She was determined to make certain that her three children would also be Medina graduates. She attended the University of Toledo and was Vice President of Special Service Transportation in Brunswick, OH. Working in the family business, she brought laughter and a warm smile to everyone she encountered. Julia was a beautiful soul overflowing with love. Julia lived for being a mother; her sun rose and set on her sons and her unborn daughter. She was a loving and loyal mother, daughter, sister, Aunt LaLa, and friend, and will be missed by the many whose lives she touched. Her loss to our business, our family, and the Medina Community is immeasurable.

Julia is survived by her sons, Benjamin Grant and Noah Michael Young; parents; sister Jennifer (Michael) Thur; grandparents Connie & David Ream; aunts and uncles, Marilyn (Ted) Shaw, Sandy (Kerry) Rimes, Mike Downs, David (Carolyn) Curry, Wendy Duke; and niece & nephew, Olivia & Declan Thur.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Paul & Stephanie Duke.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Pastor Becky Stephenson will officiate. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-6 P.M. on Sunday, March 12, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties, 120 W. Washington St. #3E1, Medina, OH 44256, or Medina City School Foundation, PO Box 1035, Medina, Ohio 44258.
