Mrs. Payne was born in Buncombe County to her late parents, Henry and Ollie Harwood Ballew. She enjoyed working in her garden, freezing, canning and sewing, and was a member of Caney Fork Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Floyd Payne, Sr.; son, Ted Floyd Payne, Jr.; son-in-law, Harold Payne; brother, Lenley Ballew; and sisters, Olene, Marie, Nina, Ruth and Wanda.
She is survived by her daughters, Tula Waldroup (Harold), Deana Payne, and Kathy Moore; sons, Larry Payne (Carol), David Payne (Helen), and Calvin Payne (Sharon); daughter-in-law, Shirley Payne; grandchildren, Linda Payne Greene, Leisa Payne, Mitchell Payne, Lenny Payne, Tam Evans, Brooke Roberts, Janice Payne, David Payne, Jr., Morgan Brooke Buckner and Abbie Payne; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Hensley and Mary Pruitt; brothers, Reid and Monroe Ballew; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, with Reverends Joseph Sluder and David Crowder officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
