Funeral Home Obituary:

Betty S. Wofford, 90, went home to her Lord and Savior Thursday, March 9, 2017. She was born October 3, 1926, in Comanche County to Earnest James Broom and Claramond Nowlin Broom.

Betty lived in Comanche County her entire life. She was a dedicated member of De Leon First Baptist Church since 1943. She faithfully served in the children’s ministry at the church for over fifty years and taught Children 1 Sunday School Class for many years. She worked for the De Leon Telephone Company for ten years before it became dial operation. Betty was the operator who said “number please” the very last time before the switch was pushed to make it a dial system. Comanche County Telephone Company honored Betty and several other employees for their service by placing their photo on the front of the 2004 directory. Betty opened Blossom Flower Shop and Gifts and operated it for over thirty years. After retiring from the flower shop, she worked for the De Leon Free Press for many years. She was the recipient of the De Leon Chamber of Commerce Golden Deed Award in 1993. Betty served two terms on the De Leon Chamber Board.

Betty loved to cook and share her wonderful food with others. She was such a talented cook that she won the Star Telegram cooking contest in 1969 and was honored in the 2010 Comanche County Living Magazine for her wonderful recipes. Betty loved the De Leon community and did all she could to support the town. She will be deeply missed by her family, her church, her community, and her many loving friends.

She is survived by her son, Jim Bob Wofford and wife, Terry; grandchildren, Marshall Wofford and wife, Racheal, and Jessica Wofford; great-grandchildren, Tyson Wofford, Mallorie Wofford and Jayden Wofford; nieces, Julia Miller and Pat Martin; and other extended family. Betty has been re-united with her parents, Earnest and Claramond Broom; sister, Grace Carnes; and great-grandson, Braeden Wofford.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Daniel Harper and Brother Kenneth Wilson officiating. Graveside services will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Comanche County.

The Wofford family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday a the funeral home.
