William O. "Dub" Scoggins, age 97, a resident of McDonald, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

Dub, as he was affectionately called, was born in Chattanooga and he was the son of the late Della Haven Scoggins and Grover Scoggins. His wife of 74 years, Opal Davenport Scoggins, his infant great granddaughter, his great grandson, Clint Scoggins, his brother, Ray Scoggins and his half brother, Robert Davis also preceded him in death.

Mr. Scoggins was drafted into the Army in 1944. He served his country during World War II in Germany, France, Belgium and Holland. Following his discharge from the Army he went to work at Chattanooga Implement Company. In 1955 he was hired by Ernest Holmes Wrecker Company in Chattanooga where he worked until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Scoggins had been a member of the Pine Hill Church of God for more than 60 years. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Pastor's council and was appointed to the board of trustees of the Church. He and his wife were chosen as the Tennessee Church of God Senior Adult Couple of the Year in 2007.

Survivors include his four children, Bill Scoggins, Steve Scoggins, Don Scoggins and Judy Mercer all of McDonald, his 9 grandchildren, his 11 great grandchildren and his one great great grandson also survives.

The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Friday, March 10, 2017 at 3:00 from the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Chapel with Reverend Jason Ollis and Joe Mercer officiating. Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery in McDonald with Grandsons and Great Grandsons serving as casket bearers. Military honors will be given.
