Mary Alice Morrissey was the daughter of John Francis and Alice Elvin Morrissey. She graduated from Trinity, now Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education at Illinois State Normal, now Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. She earned a Master of Science degree in Library Science at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
She taught more than 50 years in high schools across southern Illinois --Woodland, Melrose Park, Wethersfield, Kewanee, Stonington and Moweaqua. During her career she made several trips to Europe as a chaperone.
She was a member of St Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Moweaqua, Illinois and was active in the church's Rosary Society and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of a dinner group, started in Kewanee in the 1950s. The last time she and the group met was for her 97th birthday in Montezuma, IA in 2016.
