Eleanor Watkins (Draper) passed away peacefully at Season's Hospice on March 1, 2017 at the age of 96 after battling vascular dementia for several years. Eleanor has now reunited with Tom, her husband of 48 years who passed away in 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Eleanor Draper(Payne), her siblings Mildred Shaw, Horace Draper (Bubby), William Draper (Bill), and Elizabeth Draper and her many aunts, uncles and friends, whom she is now rejoicing with in heaven.

Eleanor, a native of Delaware grew up in the city of Wilmington during the great depression. She graduated in 1938 from Wilmington High School and went to work at the Diamond State Telephone Company as a telephone operator and later a supervisor. She told many stories of times during World War II when she worked confidential telephone lines at stations up and down the Delaware coast line. Later, she worked part time for the Brandywine School District and the Neilson Group.

Eleanor loved to do volunteer work. She was a Girl Scout Leader for over 15 years in the Brandywine School District and volunteered with her husband for many years for the Mount Pleasant High School Athletic Association. Once widowed, Eleanor devoted many hours to St. Helena's Parish, counting the weekly collection in the rectory, working the raffle table at the carnival and working in the kitchen and at the raffle table for the Christmas Bazar. She also love to travel with her longtime friend and Co-Girl Scout Leader, Marie. Her most rewarding work was helping with her three grandchildren, who were the loves of her life. She was always a call away whenever they needed her for anything.

Eleanor, had many different titles during her lifetime; Wife, Mother, Mom-Mom, Godmother, Daughter, Aunt, Sister, Cousin and Friend. She fulfilled each of them to the fullest of her ability. Her Niece's and Nephew's have always lovingly called Aunt Dumpy. This name came from a childhood nickname her brother Bill gave her of "Dumpling". She was also devout Catholic who said the rosary daily.

Eleanor is survived by, her daughter and son-in-law, Jeff and Linda Sommermann and her three grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, and Christopher.

Eleanor's family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the staff at Christiana Hospital Unit 5A and Season's Hospice who took such excellent care of her during these past few weeks and the Nurses and Caregivers at Somerford House Assisted Living, where she resided for the past two years.
