Sidney Basil Cannon, Sr. was born on September 3, 1921, in Bassett, Arkansas, son of the late Frank and Maude Bennett Cannon, and passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, in the Ashton Place Rehabilitation & Care Center in Memphis, TN at the age of 95. On April 20, 1946 he married Daisy Mae Clayton, who preceded him in death on July 9, 2010, after 64 years of marriage, and to this union, five children were born. Mr. Cannon was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Pacific during World War II. He worked as a machine operator and inspector at the International Harvester plant in Memphis, TN until his retirement. Mr. Cannon is survived by two sons, Sidney B. Cannon Jr. and Mark Cannon (Sherri) of Memphis, TN and three daughters, Sheila Griffin (David) of Vero Beach Florida, Joan Cannon and Beverly Furr (Tommy) of Memphis , TN. Additional survivors include two step-daughters, Joyce Underwood (Tommy) of Germantown, TN and Margarette Foster of Paragould, AR, nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law James and Gertrude Cannon of San Antonio, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lance Cannon, Leroy Cannon, and Guy Cannon. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 am - 11:00 am at Forest Hill Funeral Home East at 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am in the Forest Hill Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Johnny Byrd of Bartlett First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Memorial Park on Whitten Road with Forest Hill Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (Obituary published by Forest Hill Funeral Home)
