Whitney Alicia Stevens, 24, of Rapid City, passed away March 1, 2017 during a trek to Machu Picchu in Peru. She was born July 25, 1992 in Rapid City, SD.

Her brother and best friend, joined the family in 1993. Whitney couldn't say brother, so she forever named him Buddy. As babies, they had their own special language and as they got older could tell what the other was thinking with just a glance. Baby Whitney loved cookies, cuddles, and pickles. Oh, could that girl eat pickles! She loved animals of all kinds, but most special were her first dog, Pooh, and her horse, Mighty. Whitney and Mighty had many great runs barrel racing. She found peace on their quiet rides through the hills.

Whitney excelled in gymnastics as a kid. After her first Volksmarch, Whitney was hooked on hiking. Once she got a driver's license, if she wasn't drinking Pepsi and cruising with her friends; she was on the trails.

She got her first tattoo when she was 16. She lived true to herself and literally wore a heart on her sleeve. Whitney was always itching to get new ink or another piercing.

Whitney enlisted in the National Guard in November 2009. She graduated from Central High School in June 2010. She served with Charlie Company 1/189th Aviation Unit in Iraq and Kuwait from July 2011 to May 2012 during operation Enduring Freedom. She was honorably discharged in August 2013. She had an amazing work ethic, often held 2 jobs, and was always promoted quickly. She made lifelong friends from her time with Bear Country, Pizza Hut, Millstone, the National Guard, Black Hills Federal Credit Union and the Iron Horse Saloon.

Whitney had her baby girl, Marley Dominique, in November 2012. She made sure her little mini-me experienced all the things she loved most- camping, hiking, music, Rush Hockey, animals, traveling and being with family. Whitney had a large extended family and made sure everyone got to know and love Marley. In 2013, Whitney reunited with her 8th grade sweetheart Guenther. Together they raised Marley to be as spunky as her mother.

She loved her family and friends more than anything. Whitney was fiercely loyal, and once you were her friend, she considered you family. She was always down for an adventure and dreamed of traveling the world. She never expected to be someone great and she wasn't; Whitney was so much more than great. She was vibrant, intelligent, witty, sarcastic, beautiful, passionate and too stubborn to let fear get in the way of her dreams! Her advice to us all was "let your dreams be bigger than your fears and actions louder than words".

Grateful for having shared her life are: her daughter; Whitneys boyfriend; mother; father; 3 sisters; brother; and 4 nephews; niece; grandparents; special family friends, the Paul family of Rapid City, SD, and BFF & hiking partner "M.G." of Portland OR, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by a stillborn sister.
