Jones (James) Gill was born in Kentucky, the only child of William Henry Gill 1848 - 1917 and Sarah Safronia Nunn 1859-1954.
His family lived in Marion, Kentucky where his father was a mail carrier and owned a boarding house.
Jones was a World War I Army veteran, serving in 1918. He attended the University of Kentucky
He was inspector employed by the Missouri Inspection Bureau, an organization that made the rates for fire insurance throughout Missouri.
Jones married Sarah Bass Trimble 1896–1990 in 1923 in McCredie, Missouri. They had a daughter Sara Margaret 1923–2006.
The family lived in Kansas City, Missouri where Jones worked for the Missouri Inspection Bureau, becoming a manager by 1940.
He and Sarah retired to Sun City, Arizona.
Jones survivors included his wife, Sarah; and daughter Sara (Dick) Stiles of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Margaret Gill Stiles, age 82 of Scottsdale, passed away on Sun, July 23 at Hospice of the Valley. Margaret was a loving mother and wife, survived by husband, Major Dick M. Stiles, US Army retired and son, Gill Stiles. Margaret was a loyal and active member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae and held various office in the club. She helped establish the college chapter on the Arizona State University Campus in 1965, and served as alumnae chapter for many years. Margaret was a certified Travel Agent for over 30 years and was active in the United States Diving Association for more than 40 years.
